In Today’s Gospel, we have the beginning of the Bread of Life Discourse from the Gospel of John. We will be reading this discourse in its entirety over the next few weeks. Today, Jesus used the natural experience of hunger that we each have for bread as away to inspire us to see that it is only God who will satiate our deepest longings. “The bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” So they said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” I invite you to read the entire Bread of Life Discourse in John chapter 6. It will not take you very long, but in it we are invited to reflect upon the importance of Jesus giving us His body and blood. It is an invitation for us to pray and reflect upon the True presence of Christ in the Eucharist and for our need to be close to Him, who longs to be close to us. ............................................................................................................................................................. En el Evangelio de hoy, tenemos el comienzo del Discurso del Pan de Vida del Evangelio de Juan. Leeremos este discurso en su totalidad durante las próximas semanas. Hoy, Jesús usó la experiencia natural del hambre que cada uno de nosotros tiene por el pan como una forma de inspirarnos a ver que es solo Dios quien saciará nuestros anhelos más profundos. “El pan de Dios es aquel que baja del cielo y da la vida al mundo”. Entonces le dijeron: “Señor, danos siempre de ese pan”. Jesús les contestó: “Yo soy el pan de la vida. El que viene a mí no tendrá hambre y el que cree en mí nunca tendrá sed”. No les llevará mucho tiempo, pero en él se nos invita a reflexionar sobre la importancia de que Jesús nos dé su cuerpo y su sangre. Es una invitación para que oremos y reflexionemos sobre la verdadera presencia de Cristo en la Eucaristía y sobre nuestra necesidad de estar cerca de Él, quien anhela estar cerca de nosotros.
