Today we read the ugly part of the story of Jonah. We all know the first part of his story. God asked Jonah to preach to the Ninevites that they must repent their lives and follow God anew, but Jonah did not want to do this. He ran from God. He was thrown off a boat, swallowed by a whale and then spit out at the port of Nineveh! God is rarely this forceful with His will. Jonah took three days marching across all of Nineveh preaching the impending destruction because they had been unfaithful to God. Something truly remarkable happened. The people all believed him! Even by the end of the 1st day, people had begun to fast, put on sack cloth and ashes and pray to God for forgiveness. By 3 days the entire land from the king to the pauper and even the animals were all repenting from their sin. Jonah is the single most successful prophet in all of Israel. You think this would make Jonah happy, but it infuriated him. Now there would be no fire and brimstone, no destruction. Moreover he likely imagines that everyone will think He made it up. He wanted to see the calamity to prove that he was right. Yet God relented and had mercy. So Jonah throws a fit like a spoiled child that did not get His way. Dios le pidió a Jonás que predicara a los ninivitas que debían arrepentirse de sus vidas y seguir a Dios de nuevo, pero Jonás no quería hacer esto. Huyó de Dios. ¡Lo arrojaron de un bote, se lo tragó una ballena y luego lo escupieron en el puerto de Nínive! Dios rara vez es tan contundente con Su voluntad.
