"Sh'ma Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Eḥad" ("Hear, O Israel: the LORD is our God, the LORD is One.") This is the first line of the most well known Hebrew prayer. It is recited at least twice a day by all Jews. The first verse of the prayer is taken from Deuteronomy 6:4-9. This first line summarizes the most important teneent of all of Judiasm that there is One God and only one God monotheism, as contrasted by all other world religions at the time that taught there were many gods, polytheism. "Hear, O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words which I command you today shall be upon your heart. You shall teach them thoroughly to your children, and you shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road, when you lie down and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for a reminder between your eyes.
