"When [Jesus] disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things." This passage always strikes me as interesting and very important. When Christ saw the vastness of the crowd and their great need, He is moved in the very depth of His being in compassion for them. They were in need of a shepherd. But notice what Christ does once he realizes this. He does not begin healing them, expelling demons or feeding them. Jesus teaches them. Their greatest need was for something only He could give. They needed Jesus. He gave them Himself. It reminds me how important it is that we pass on Jesus in loving acts, but also in words of truth. People are longing for Jesus and they are longing for His teaching. I see it in religious education, how much these kids long to know Jesus and know the teachings of His church. May we be faithful teachers of Jesus by deed and by word. ............................................................................................................................................................. No comienza a curarlos, expulsar demonios o alimentarlos. Necesitaban a Jesús.
