New Members Welcome!
The Church Needs Musicians
“The faith of countless believers has been nourished by melodies flowing from the hearts of other believers…”
“In song, faith is experienced as vibrant joy, love and confident expectation of the saving intervention of God.”
-Saint Pope John Paul II
All of our choirs are seeking and welcoming new volunteers, vocalists, and instrumentalists! If you feel called to participate in CTRCC’s Music Ministries, and have the time to commit to rehearsals and Masses, please contact Claire Schweppe, Music Director for more information. She can be reached at 703-430-0811 or [email protected].
Adult Choir
CTRCC’s Adult Choir serves at the 10am Sunday Masses, September through Pentecost. The choir provides musical leadership in worship, facilitating the participation of the entire congregation. The choir rehearses weekly on Thursdays, from 7:00pm-8:20pm, and gathers at 9:30am on Sunday mornings for warm-ups. All are welcome.
Cantors
CTRCC’s cantors serve in the important dual ministries of psalmist and leader of congregational song. As psalmists, the cantors proclaim the text of the Psalm with clarity and conviction. As leaders of congregational song, the cantors facilitate the singing of the gathered assembly. The cantors are a generous and dedicated group of vocalists to give of their time in this special way.
Cantors rehearse the congregational songs at the Thursday evening choir practices, and the psalms with the choir director at a time convenient to them. We are currently looking for new cantors to add to our team. You are invited to prayerfully consider if you are called to this ministry. Cantors need to possess a pleasant voice, and the ability to comfortably stand at the ambo. Training will be provided. A Cantor Workshop is scheduled for Sept. 6th, 10am-11am. Please contact Claire Caruso for more information.
Children’s Choir
CTRCC’s Children’s Choir is open to any children in grades K-6. This choir serves monthly at the 10am Sunday Mass, providing musical leadership in worship, and facilitating the participation of the entire congregation. Children are given musical and liturgical training, as well as the opportunity to sing with the adult choir and participate in a ministry that has no age boundary. Rehearsals are weekly on Monday evenings at 5:30pm. The children then meet at 9:15am for warm-ups before the Mass for which they are scheduled to sing.
Coro
Colosenses 3:16-17.
Schola
Members of the Schola, drawn from the adult choir, serve monthly at the 5:30pm Saturday Vigil Mass. They provide musical leadership in worship, facilitating the participation of the entire congregation. The Schola will oftentimes provide prelude music, and/or choral meditations for this Mass. When this happens, the congregation is invited to unite themselves interiorly to the text and sentiment of the Schola’s music. Rehearsals are weekly on Thursdays, from 8:30-9:15pm. The Schola gathers on Saturdays at 5:00pm for warm-ups.
Youth Choir
This ensemble is comprised of middle and high-school aged vocalists and instrumentalists. They serve monthly at the 5:30pm Saturday vigil Mass, providing musical leadership in worship, and facilitating the participation of the entire congregation. The choir rehearses weekly on Monday evenings from 7:00-8:00pm and gathers at 4:45pm for warm-ups prior to the Mass for which they are singing.
