GENERAL INFORMATION ON PREPARATION
Confirmation for Junior/Senior High candidates is celebrated in the Fall after candidates have completed two consecutive years of Religious Education (at least up to Grade 7 and 8), the Four (4) Confirmation Assignments, and participated in a Confirmation Retreat.
In the first year, Candidates are enrolled in Religious Education and typically complete the One Faith, One Lord/Una Sola Fe, Un Sol Señor (Sadlier) text. In the second year, candidates continue their Religious Education with Scripture Studies (Mondays) or Church History and High School Youth Ministry (Sundays). Please note: only the First Year of Confirmation Preparation uses a bilingual text and has some bilingual catechists. All other years and texts beyond that are in English and taught in English.
During this second year, parents also attend Four (4) Parent Confirmation Meetings. A different topic is discussed at each meeting and an Assignment is distributed for Candidates to complete with their parent's help. The Four (4) Assignments integrate information from Religious Education(past and present) with meeting topics. The meetings and assignments are in English and separately in Spanish.
If you are an adult baptized as a Catholic but still in need of celebrating Confirmation (or Confirmation and Holy Communion) please contact contact Jay Cuasay, Director of Christian Formation.
The celebration for Adult Confirmation is during the Easter Season. Adult Confirmation is normally celebrated annually at the Cathedral of St. Thomas Moore in Arlington on the weekend of Pentecost (50 days after Easter). In order to be prepared to celebrate at the Cathedral, you should meet with Jay Cuasay beginning no later than January in order to celebrate Confirmation by Pentecost (typically between May and June).
This year, due to the new Bishop's Schedule, Adult Confirmation will be celebrated SAT JUN 11 at St. Theresa in Ashburn or
SUN JUN 25 at the Cathedral.
Both Celebrations start at 2:30 PM
If you are a baptized person in a different Christian denomination interested in becoming Catholic through a Profession of Faith, which is followed by Confirmation and Communion, please contact Jay Cuasay, Director of Christian Formation to discuss these preparations.
