Today 80 of our young men and women will receive the Holy Spirit in Confirmation. In addition to the Confirmation Mass this evening, today we also celebrate the Feast of the Archangels. There are three archangels named in sacred scripture who carried out specific messages in salvation History. Today is the feast day of St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael. Raphael appeared to Tobias in the book of Tobit. His names means "Remedy or Medicine of God". He is considered the great healer. Gabriel appeared to Mary and announced to her the Birth of Jesus. Gabriel means "strength of God". Michael we hear of in Daniel and in Revelation as the great angel who cast Satan out of Heaven. Michael means "one who is like God".
