Pope St. Paul VI declared in his encyclical Evangelii Nuntiandi that the Church “exists in order to evangelize.” On today Catechetical Sunday, we as a Church remind ourselves of the great importance it is to teach others to know Jesus, to love Jesus, and to serve Jesus with our whole heart. In the same document, St. Paul VI goes on to say, "Here lies the test of truth, the touchstone of evangelization: it is unthinkable that a person should accept the Word and give himself to the kingdom without becoming a person who bears witness to it and proclaims it in his turn." Finally my favorite quote from St. Paul VI is a reminder to teachers that simply telling people about Jesus is ineffective. We instead must live what we are teaching. He says,"Modern man listens more willingly to witnesses than to teachers, and if he does listen to teachers, it is because they are witnesses." ............................................................................................................................................................. Finalmente, mi cita favorita de San Pablo VI es un recordatorio para los maestros de que simplemente decirle a la gente acerca de Jesús es ineficaz. En cambio, debemos vivir lo que estamos enseñando. Dice: "El hombre contemporáneo escucha más a gusto a los que dan testimonio que a los que enseñan, o si escuchan a los que enseñan, es porque dan testimonio".
