A little over a month ago on Thanksgiving day I reminded us of the importance of not looking back at 2020 with a negative heart. Though it may be tempting to look back at 2020 and only see calamity, tragedy, pandemic, death and strife; this would be a mistake. There is a reason that we say each year is "The Year of the Lord 2020." God was deeply involved in our lives throughout this past year. I see numerous blessings. I am grateful for all the brave men and women on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19, for the doctors, the nurses, the orderlies, the police and fire and rescue people, the caregivers of our elderly, aged and infirm. I am thankful for the generous souls who serve in food pantries and soup kitchens, the volunteers who serve the poor and needy. I am grateful for the generosity of the parishioners here at Christ the Redeemer and their generous response to our brothers and sisters in need, especially those who help those economically impacted negatively by being out of work or underemployed. I am grateful for all the disaster relief workers and volunteers that help fight wild fires in the west, hurricane damage in the south, and other disasters that have hit our country hard over this past year. I am grateful for teachers who have adapted and changed to meet the needs of their students, to families who have become more involved in their kids daily lives by helping them with online learning and homeschooling. When I look back on the tragedies, challenges and difficulties of 2020, I see heroes who have risen to the occasion to make things better. I am deeply grateful for our generous response as a community to the cross that has been given to us this past year. More importantly I am certain of God's continued action and support throughout the Year of the Lord 2021. Cuando miro hacia atrás en las tragedias, desafíos y dificultades de 2020, veo héroes que han estado a la altura de la ocasión para mejorar las cosas. Estoy profundamente agradecido por nuestra generosa respuesta como comunidad a la cruz que se nos ha dado el año pasado.
